ABOUT SCANNING
ALL SCANNING: A tech see's and adjusts "every" image scanned, By-Hand - roll-scans ~ Drum-scans.
DIGITAL ICE : Simply, we do not use it. Digital Ice deminishes the scan quality. Our processing is very clean. Other labs may use Digital Ice because their processing lines are dirty.

The drum scanner; gets its name from the large acrylic drum on which the original artwork is mounted for scanning. Drum scanners capture image information with photomultiplier tubes or PMT. A PMT scanner can capture up to 3 times the clarity of even the newest CCD scanners, If you require a drum-scan, do not be fooled by the advertising 'Imacon-virtual-drum'. An Imacon scanner IS NOT a drum-scanner, it is a CCD-scanner. A CCD array scanner, [charge-coupled device], is a collection of tiny light-sensitive diodes, which convert photons (light) into electrons (electrical charge). Most new scanners today are CCD type scanners. They have improved vastly in the past 10 years.
8000 Hi-res: The first image scanner ever developed was a drum scanner in 1957. Drum scanning takes skill. The scan is only as good as the operator. Drum scanning for film can be done with or without mounting oil. Modern mounting oil does not harm film how ever it is not recommended for fragile or old images. We use an AZTEK or SCANVIEW drum scanner capable of 6000dpi optical and 48 bit [total] resolution.
SP2500 w/Adapted custom software: This is a new and recent input to our scanning capability. Initially an SP2500 had to be connected to the 390 FRONTIER printer. This remarkable scanner, stated obsolete by Fuji, has been reborn. New updated software specially for our scanning needs - B&W-slides and color slides - Has given us many new updated service options. We now can provide 'ROLL-scans for most all roll films and formats, and with much higher quality & speed than before. Small 6mgb scans to 40mgb. Superior general scans from: dr5-chromes [B&W-slide], color-chrome-E6 - including Infrared, cross-processed C-41 chromes, ALL negative processed films - B&W or color. Odd-sized films: 645~6x9, 35mm-wide, X-pan & wide-lux, 110, 35-1/2-frame, 126. Our new custom-scanner-software is capable of handling almost 3+stops dark chromes or negatives.
SCANVIEW F8plus: Our current high quality flatbed & film scanners are of the best designed of its kind. The SCANVIEW F8plus is unlike many flatbed designs, the F8's design is direct. In other words, it uses no mirrors to see the image. We use this scanner for fragile film, collodion-glass, and flat art; 5000dpi up to 48 bit.
